'Flat Stanley' inspired activity

I visited my man, Jeff Bonifate, yesterday in Fox Chapel Area SD, PA and he shared a neat holiday activity he does with kids involving ‘Flat Stanley’ based on the 1964 children's book written by Jeff Brown. Jeff Bonifate  has the student design themselves as a flat character in Pixie complete with a headshot and colorful clothing. Then they print and laminate the characters. The next step is to pawn them off on family visiting family members (Thanksgiving, etc.) who take picture of themselves…See More

Pixie Sample Activity #1 – Math Monster - Geometry

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 7:36am 0 Comments

One of my favorite Pixie lessons of all time is Math Monster – third grade geometry. Using the Monster Body Parts sort from the October – Month-by-Month folder students complete a teacher-led class engagement. The teacher transitions by announcing that students are going to create their own monster and they can make the monster look anyway they want. Practically giddy with excitement the students are ready start, but the teacher adds ‘As long as your monster contains these geometric shapes’.…

Possibilities of Pixie 3 (v. 18) - Built for Problem-Based Learning

Posted on October 14, 2011 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

It wasn’t that long ago that I was emailing monthly ‘Possibilities of Pixie’ newsletters outlining exciting integration options using various tools and features in Pixie 2. I have taken a 9-month hiatus and am ready to renew my efforts with a blog focusing on the newest version, Pixie 3. This particular posting focuses on moving beyond the one-page templates to something more sophisticated.

Pixie 3’s ability to create multi-page documents opens the door for students to…

Loyalists Vs. Patriots

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 8:10am 0 Comments

I had a terrific experience working with Adina Popa and Rhonda Lopez at Steuart Weller Elementary in Ashburn, VA yesterday. We had a group of fourth graders work on creating videos in Pixie arguing why a colonist should be a Loyalist or a Patriot. They were just learning about Loyalists and Patriots (when I said I knew the Patriots had a good chance of winning the Super Bowl I received a few baffled looks…

I bet you would be a great Carribean rep. Maybe you can finally help Nancy Grace figure out what really happened to Natalie?

Thanks - I'm having so much fun with Image Blender! I'm sorry we couldn't make it yesterday. Two TRTs were stranded in Emmitsburg due to 15 being shut down for powerlines that fell. Another TRT was involved in an accident. What a day! I hope your sessions went well. I also submitted poster sessions for MICCA for Tech4Learning software. I should know by next month if I get in. :-)

It was great to see you and Lindie at the conference. I enjoyed the format and topics covered. I do have some new ideas to use and share with my team. I'll just have to use my own copy of Pixie 2 until HCPS can upgrade... Frames is so cool. I've seen some of the examples before and they are awesome. It was neat to watch Lindie create pictures on the spot! Thanks for a great day! :)
