Secondary Succession

Posted on January 29, 2012 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

My daughter (5th grade) had a homework assignment for school to explain secondary succession. She is very into drawing comics lately and wanted to use that format so I showed her how she could use Pixie for that. We LOVE Pixie!!! (I hope you can read the dialogue...)…

Please Help Our Class!!!!

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 7:16pm 1 Comment

One of our 2nd grade classes worked very hard to create a PSA on fire safety for a statewide contest. The winning video is the one that receives the most "likes" on youtube, and the prize is $10,000 for the school and $2,500 for the local fire department.
Voting goes through November 30th. Of course, we would really love to win.... what school can't use $10,000????

Just a little Pixie love....
I use Pixie for ....well, almost everything! It is such a fun and useful tool.

One of the middle school teachers at my school was asking me what tool to use for a particular project she was doing with students. When I suggested Pixie she frowned, "I don't really like Pixie, it's too primary for MS."
Oh. Okay.
A few weeks later she was looking at my blog. She LOVED…

ISTE10 - Through My Lens

Posted on July 7, 2010 at 12:00pm 5 Comments

So, by now, almost a week after the final keynote, there have been lots and lots (and LOTS!) of ISTE10 blog posts. I still have an #iste10 search column in Tweetdeck, and, although it is starting to wind down, there are still quite a few tweets. I will process them slowly, over time. We've all heard the apt analogy that learning at a… Continue

Hi Andrea,
It is so funny that I was watching you while you were watching me. You are a phenomenal educator . We are still hoping you will come to Israel someday. Your project is beautiful and I just love it!1
You did a great job documenting. We also feel so proud and grateful to Tech4learning. My kids would have never had this opportunity in Israel.
SO nice to hear from you.
Keep in touch,
Marsha

Thank you for your "Share Your Story" submission as well as all of the samples you've posted. Always nice to see quality educators, like yourself, challenging their students in a creative fashion. See you at NECC!

Andrea, it sounds like you may need to update your version of ImageBlender. If your new Mac Book came with OSX 10.6 on it, then give the update a try:

Hi Andrea, I've loved looking over your ideas, I really loved the mother's day one. I have used the wordle site before for 5th grade end of the year memories, but loved the idea of incorporating it with photos and clipart. We did them with Red Ribbon slogans and they turned out fantastic. I'm curious if you print all of your student's works or do you just post them? I love using backgrounds, but am always discouraging them if we are printing the work for the students. Thanks again for sharing.

I'm actually at Julington Creek Elementary school, very close to you. We are a very large school (close to 1,000) and it's just too time consuming to post all their work - there are 8-9 classes per grade level, K-5th. I see the students about twice a month. I am allotted some money for toner, but I am trying to move away from printing so much. That's why I'm really looking at Frames and Share for my older students. When I did animations with my 5th graders I just picked 4 or 5 per class to post and even that took a bit of time, but it was worth it. We also have a policy of never naming a student on the web if there is a photo (for safety of the students) so that limits some of what I can post too. Thanks for your feedback, I like the idea of the print coupons, but I'm not sure how that would work in my situation, but I'm always open to new ideas.
